I stood at the Bookstall table in the YearlyKos exhibitor hall in front of both Marcy Wheeler and George Lakoff. When I thought about the enormous impact of their contributions for me, for progressives, and for good government, I was simply honored to meet them—-two modern-day Thomas Paines.
I bought Marcy’s book, Anatomy of Deceit, and dived into the forward. She wrote about the sacrifice that it took to write the book-—weeks and months away from her day job as a business consultant. Her writing is extremely well-researched. It took time, patience, and expertise.
I had an idea. I have opened my wallet many times for appeals from Howard Dean, Russ Feingold, Barack Obama, MoveOn.org, and others. Why not establish a Yearly KOS awards program, whereby I can direct funds to well-deserving writers of my choosing? I submit that they are as important as anyone else in advancing good government. I want to encourage, incent, and reward them to do more of what they do so well. A $50 or $100 annual contribution to these writers and diarists, along a contribution to support KOS activities, is the least that this grateful Kossack can do.
