Some of you know me from my occasional comments posted to diaries and articles, but I've never felt the need to contribute a diary before because, quite frankly, I've never felt I had anything so important to say that it couldn't be said in a few short sentences or paragraphs. Goodness knows, we sure don't need anymore diaries of limited worth or downright meaningless drivel cluttering up this site. But today I reached a point where I was sooooo angry I need to let off some steam. You see, my Senator, Ben Nelson, was the only Democrat to vote against the Jobs Bill today. Aaaarghhh! I couldn't take it any more. I fired off an email that I have no doubt will result in a phone call from one of his aides. Follow me beneath the fold and and I'll show you the email.
My email of March 17, 2010 to Senator Ben Nelson
Dear Senator Nelson:
I am a constituent living in Lincoln, Nebraska. I see from the official Senate web site that you voted against the Jobs Bill (the Motion to Concur in the House Amendments to Senate Amendment to House Amendment to Senate Amendment to H.R. 2847). Really? Do you think it is going to make you more popular in Nebraska if you poke a stick in the eye of your Democratic base and the President and vote with Republicans? Do you think your “NO” vote on the Job's Bill will miraculously wipe out the bad press and ill will you earned with your absurdly stupid “Cornhusker Kickback”? Really! You were such a genius with that one. This is more of your brilliant political savvy in action? Really?
You just go keep playing in the Republican sandbox. Let's see how many Republicans cross over and vote for you in the next election. You will need them because the Base is not going to come out for you. You go right ahead and keep poking your finger in the eyes of Nebraska Democrats. Let's see how many of us keep our wallets closed and sit on our hands come your next election. Be prepared to find yourself in the same position as Blanche Lincoln finds herself in right now. No way in hell will she be re-elected, even if she wins her primary which, as we all know, is no sure bet. Republicans will never vote for her, and neither will the Democratic base. She's toast. That will be you in 2012.
Go ahead, switch parties. That way Democratic Party resources can be freed up to find and support real Democrats. In any event, you better start searching for that lobbying job right now because you are going to need something to fall back on when you lose in 2012. Really!
Very truly yours,
Yes, I really pushed the "send" button. I feel so much better now. Feel free to tell me how you feel about Ben Nelson. Don't hold back. You will feel so much better for letting it out.
