For those of you who are not already aware, Massachusetts is AWESOME. Some might even say it's the greatest commonwealth and/or state in the union (not that KY, VA, or PA could ever hope to compete:) Don't believe me. Just look at the facts. The Bay State is awesome. Here are some facts:
Massachusetts was the first state to abolish slavery (Take that Mississippi).
Massachusetts was also the first state to recognize marriage equality - not civil unions, or domestic partnerships, but full-on marriage equality. (Nice try, Hawaii & Vermont).
Massachusetts is also home to the World Champion Boston Red Sox. (I dare you to say anything New York).
Hell, even our Republicans are fairly liberal (at least until they decide to run for president).
And now...
Massachusetts is home to the first Trappist Brewery outside of Europe. As discussed in the in the Jan. 10 edition of the Boston Globe:
SPENCER — The monks live in a fieldstone abbey nestled in rolling farmland, supporting their modest lifestyle by selling religious vestments and jam preserves.
But in recent years, the simple monks of Saint Joseph’s Abbey have quietly set about building one of the biggest breweries in the state and the first Trappist brewery on American soil. Their sleek 36,000-square-foot brewery — modeled after multimillion-dollar facilities in Europe— has already made its first commercial batches of Belgian-style ale, which will go on sale next week.
And it turns out, the beer is pretty damn good too. The reviewers at beeradvocate.com (beer drinkers like you and I) gave the ale an impressive score of 91.
Here's to you, Massachusetts!!
