The Democratic ground game in Colorado has not only kicked into high gear, it's kicked into overdrive! The Colorado Republicans came out of the gate running like a horde of Central American ISIL kids with Ebola had just crossed the boarder and was right on their tails! The big question since the start of early voting has been, can the Democrats catch them?
It was obvious from the beginning that the Republicans couldn't keep up the pace of voting they started out with, and the Democrats slowly chipped away at that huge lead. But it's also been obvious the Democrats were going to have to make some big gains in the final days of early voting to have any chance at winning.
Well it looks like those big gains are happening. Here's the last numbers for early voting from the Secretary of State.
D R U
10/31/14 32.2 41.4 25.3
11/03/14 32.4 40.5 26.1
11/04/14 32.3 39.6 27.0
The magic number to keep in mind here is 6.8%. That's the lead the Republicans had in 2010 when Senator Bennet won by 1.6%. So in the last 3-4 days, the Republicans went from a 9.2% advantage to a 7.3% advantage with Democrats gaining 0.8% in the last day alone. So the Democrats need to gain 0.5% today to match their 2010 turnout.
Here's how some of the key counties have turned out.
Dem Advantage Repub Advantage
Boulder Denver Douglas El Paso
10/22/14 20.3 31.2 37.6 34.8
10/24/14 20.9 31.9 37.6 34.4
10/27/14 20.7 32.2 36.7 34.5
10/29/14 21.9 33.2 36.4 33.8
10/31/14 22.9 33.5 35.3 33.2
11/03/14 23.5 33.6 34.6 32.5
11/04/14 24.7 34.1 33.7 31.8
Boulder county had a terrific day yesterday with almost 11,000 votes cast.
If you read anything about watching returns in CO, you'll hear about bellwether Jefferson county is the county to watch. Here's the R advantage over the last 2 reports:
11/03/14 6.9%
11/04/14 6.4%
So Jefferson county is already below the magic 6.8% statewide 2010 number and is for sure to drop further today.
Bottom line is the DEM GOTV machine is in overdrive and this CO race is ours for the taking TODAY! We just need to get out and lend a hand on a sunny brisk Colorado day and talk those procrastinating Democrats into getting down to the voting centers and stop the train wreck that a Mitch McConnell senate would create.
This is it, we've got this if we pull out all the stops and
GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV! GOTV!
like there's no tomorrow!
