I know that the DCCC went into "desperation" mode and caught a lot of flack with their "ALL HOPE IS LOST!!!" money begs last fall.
However, I never thought I'd see them LITERALLY say that "ALL HOPE IS LOST!!" in the subject while LITERALLY giving up the campaign A YEAR AND A HALF ahead of time.
And yet, today, here's what I found in my in box:
Look, I know that the Doom & Gloom messaging does work in terms of raising money, but fer Chrissakes...it's March 2015, and they're ALREADY saying--literally--that if they don't raise $X amount of money today, "we might as well give up any hope of a Democratic Congress."
Way to inspire the troops, guys.
I'm going to assume that the HAIR ON FIRE!!! PANIC!! OH NOEZZZZ!! strategy worked very well in terms of raising money last November...but it sure as hell didn't lead to a massive swell of Democratic voter turnout.
Yes, of course gerrymandering played a large part, and of course the Koch Bros money, bla bla bla...but at the same time, what good does raising gobs of money do if the voters are too depressed to actually show up in the end?
Others are better political/electoral strategists than I, but I can't possibly be alone in this view (in fact, Markos himself has been complaining about this very issue the past few days).
UPDATE: FWIW, speaking of fundraising, if anyone happens to feel like ponying up a few bucks for ACA Signups, I won't say no...(but no, the earth isn't gonna open up and swallow me if you don't either lol) :)
UPDATE x2: Thanks to sidnora in the comments for reminding me of the perfect representation of the DCCC mindset:
Update x3: Here's one that I posted last October, just to underscore my point:
