Hi guys, and happy Thursday! We are devoting this gray, rainy day to one of the sweetest little creatures around — the guinea pig! Also affectionately known as “furry potatoes”, piggies engender smiles, “awww”s, and fierce dedication from guinea pig aficionados, or piggie people. And believe me, if you thought pootie people were rabidly dedicated to their chosen animal…
Welcome to PWB Theme Thursdays! If you’ve never visited or commented in a PWB (Pootie/Woozle/Birdie) diary before, come on in — the water is fine, and the folks are always friendly! A few quick guidelines:
- No trolling the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.
- When it comes to problems, we may just have someone with experience who can help. So ask!
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, but if you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
- There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.
But really, who can blame them? Piggies pack insane amounts of personality into such a tiny package:
Separated at birth?
I mean, c’mon. When you’re clearly channeling Sean Connery and Jack Nicholson, you’ve got cool going all kinds of on!
But there’s another side to piggies, too: the sweet, loving, adorable side :-)
Of course, guinea pigs have some truly distinctive traits:
But most of those traits are adorable :-) There is for example their trademark sound, which most people describe as a “wheek, wheek”. CAUTION: Once you fall in love with that sound, there is no going back!
Then there’s their “popcorn” dance, when they’re happy and excited:
Then there’s the way your piggy can go from potato:
to pancake:
Like all creatures, their self-image isn’t always accurate:
But it’s still awfully rude when you get it wrong!!!
They do have some similarities with cats. For one, they like to snuggle — sometimes a bit excessively:
They don’t always appreciate your offerings:
And their priorities don’t necessarily match yours:
But for those who fall under the guinea pig’s spell, there is nothing more soothing or calming or comforting than the feel of a warm, stocky little piggie curled up in your lap, sound asleep :-)
I hope you have enjoyed this quick visit with an often-overlooked member of the PWB clan! Happy Thursday, everyone!
