Nassau COunty Executive Tom Suozzi, who won re-election to his post this past November, has made some noise about challenging Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for governor. Well a new poll might have him changing his mind.
The Siena Research Institute came out with this
poll a couple of days ago. Sorry, if it was posted already, I will delete if so.
First, The Governor's race(Democratic primary numbers):
Head to Head match-up:
Spitzer: 72%
Suozzi: 8%
Favorable/Unfavorable/Dont know
Spitzer: 77/6/18
Suozzi: 14/7/79
So, yes, a lot of SPitzer's lead is because of name recognition. However, that in sense, is also his strength, since a majority of New Yorkers also approve of the job he is doing as AG. As noted in the article, Spitzer also has a commanding fundraising lead. And politics1.com reported that in light of this poll, Chuck Schumer, who was rumored to be pushing a Suozzi candidacy against Spitzer, has now said he will not endorse anyone in the primary and wont get invovled since he is too busy as chairman of the DSCC. So Spitzer 's still looking good, heading into the new year.
Now the other two races, Attorney General and Lt. Governor:
Attorney General(Dem Primary):
Andrew Cuomo: 37
Mark Green: 20
Everyone else: 10(combined)
Dont know: 33
Lt. Gov:
Ok, this race is wide open. 80% of Dems dont have a preference yet, with Assemblyman Tom Dinapoli leading the way with a whopping 10%.
Thoughts?? The primary in New York is Sept. 12, 2006, so lots of time for stuff to happen.
