Perhaps it is time to stop talking about "how to end the war".
We should stop talking about partitions and timetables and phase-outs and drawdowns and surges.
Instead, we should begin speaking of the Iraq War in the past tense.
"The War is over. We won, Saddam lost. We are now just waiting for the President to bring the troops home".
"During the war, we suffered few casualties. Most of our casualities came later".
Well, if the Second Gulf War (2003-2004) is over, then what are our people doing over there? Miltary Intervention? Peacekeeping? Meddling? I don't know. But we need ideas on a new word. Please post yours!
Congress should not be forced to vote on continued funding for "The War". If the nation is at War, how can you not fund it? But since the War is over, de-funding the Intervention makes a lot of sense. Also, since the War is Over and We Won, there can be no "defeat" or "retreat" or "surrender".
