Inspired by the Presidential Primaries in so-called "Red States", I decided to take a look what a Red State is. How many are there and Which states are they?
I count only seven. More follows...
Idaho
Utah
Texas
Alaska
Alabama
Georgia
South Carolina
These seven states each have 2 Republican Senators and a Republican Governor. I submit that only these states can truly be called "Red". We have a chance to win the rest.
Kansas? Oklaholma? Yeah, it's gonna be tough. But both of those states have Democratic Governors. So this proves that it is possible, if not probable. So if you hear that some Presidential candidate won a primary or caucus out West or down South, don't scoff. We need to carry our message out to more states, not fewer.
Americans hate the war and are feeling the economic pain of Supply-Sideism. Also, I believe that Social Conservatives are finally realizing that their battle for Morality (as they see it) must be fought in churches and neighborhoods...not Washington.
This year could be special. We should never write off a place like Nebraska or South Dakota. Never give them anything for free. All this does is free up Repug resources to fight us in Ohio and Florida.
But one thing I suspect...a "big media buy" in October will not be the way to win these reddish-purple states. We need to start the converstion now, get our frames straight, and start supporting candidates and activists.
What's it going to take to flip one or two states to our side in November? What's the best way to start? Or is winning Georgia a complete fantasy?
