Let the games begin...
The Obama team has landed one of the greatest opportunities to frame John McCain for what he is.
The Obama campaign has signaled that they'll be making a major issue of job losses in Ohio -- and aggressively tying John McCain and his campaign manager Rick Davis directly to the problems hurting voters there.
Now the AFL-CIO is joining in to hit McCain on the DHL deal with this mailer stating right on the front...
"John McCain, turned his back on 8,000 workers."
Driving home Obama's attacks on McCain's involvement in the sale of an Ohio DHL plant, the AFL-CIO is sending the above mailer to what a union official described as 100,000 "union swing voters" in Ohio -- that is, Reagan Democrats.
The mailing (front, back) attacks McCain, and his campaign manager Rick Davis, for working to make the sale go through.

Also, an accompanying email campaign reads, in part:
"McCain had a choice then, and he has a choice now. Will McCain fight for Ohio's workers or keep his lobbyist buddy Rick Davis, who made over $570,000 from this deal, as his campaign manager?
"We need you to call or email McCain's Ohio campaign office today and ask them to make this choice. You can reach McCain's Ohio Headquarters by phone at: 1-614-441-8097 or by email here: ohio@johnmccain.com."
The Obama campaign released a radio ad that's running in the Cincinnati area, regarding the closure of a DHL facility in Wilmington.

"It was McCain who used his influence in the Senate to help foreign-owned DHL buy a U.S. company and gain control over the jobs that are now on the chopping block in Ohio," the ad said.
But there's something John McCain's not telling you: It was McCain who used his influence in the Senate to help foreign-owned DHL buy a U.S. company and gain control over the jobs that are now on the chopping block in Ohio," the announcer says.
"And that's not all: McCain's campaign manager was the top lobbyist for the DHL deal...helped push it through. His firm was paid $185,000 to lobby McCain and other Senators."
The issue:
Rick Davis' work back in 2003, when he successfully lobbied Congress -- winning McCain's support -- to approve a buyout of Airborne Express by DHL. Five years later, DHL is planning to shut down the old Airborne Express hub in Wilmington, which would lead to the loss of 8,000 jobs.
Plouffe makes it clear that he thinks this issue will be haunting McCain's efforts to win this state: "His appearances in Ohio were completely overshadowed by this. And by November 4 in the Cincinnati and Dayton markets this is something that is going to be known by every voter in this area."
Plouffe goes on to say this...
"He was there a month ago in this community and was asked a question about this DHL issue and did not say one word about his role in this or the role of his campaign manager," Plouffe said. "That is the furthest thing from straight talk that we can imagine."
The Obama campaign response:
McCain's own campaign manager profited directly off lobbying that led to a job-killing deal in your state. Which will carry the day?
Watch this McCain's straight talk...
McCain has been trying to portray Obama as a celebrity, blah, blah, blah.
Frankly, I'm sick of it. Let's hope this gets some traction.
