Many of us will be involved in discussions with our friends or relatives in the next few weeks about why we oppose so strongly a continuation of Republican rule. This is my way of handling it.
I have one argument I'm going to use with my Republican friends and relatives who still anticipate supporting the McCain candidacy this November. It has several advantages, it's simple, doesn't require a lot of facts or figures which can be debated or contested and it is largely irrefutable. It goes something like this:
"If you insist on supporting the Republicans in this election just do so with your eyes open. If you wake up three years from now and find your kids or grandkids on a C-47 headed for Iran, don't tell me you didn't see it coming, because I'm giving you a heads up right now. There is no way this next phase of the "holy crusade" these guys clearly have in mind can be fought with an all volunteer army and the mercenaries of Blackwater. When Pat Buchannan said that "McCain would make Cheney look like Gandhi", he was talking from experience with the man. Think about it."
My experience is this may or may not get a rebuttal. I just end it there by saying "remember what I said, I'm not going to say I told you so later, by then it will be too late"
