Remember how the Republicans win these things? They never concede a point, they fight to the bitter end no matter how wrong they are, and that has won for them, over and over again. You'll say I'm not the first poster to make these points, but it needs to be heard, NOW.
If the Republicans have taught us anything in the last few cycles it is that the American people do not understand or appreciate nuance in American politics. After what was by all measures a very successful convention, there have been a few critical missteps or failures to stay on message by the Obama Campaign. I would site the following examples:
Appearing with Bill O'Reilly - There is no reason for Obama to appear on Fox News, there are no votes for him there and giving this propaganda outlet legitimacy does nothing but contribute to the Republican attack machine. This whole episode smacks of listening to the kind of loser "consultants" which have been the downfall of Democratic politicians for many years. He must delegitimize these hooligans and bullies by ignoring and portraying them as the clowns they are, not appearing on their programs
The Surge "succeeded beyond our wildest dreams" - Why would Obama give in to this Republican talking point? It is neither true no important to the issue of our continued presence in Iraq. Never...I repeat, never give into their talking points.
The Recession could delay repealing Republican tax cuts to the wealthy – This is stupid. was Obama 'against them before he was for them' now? The Republicans have been waging warfare against the middle class for years, to suggest that tax cuts for the wealthy help the economy at this point is to concede one of the most important fiscal policy points the Democrats have, namely; "The Republicans have trashed the economy to support their rich constituents, at the expense of the country in general".
It's not to late for Obama to lose this election. The American people want to see an Obama who is tough, believes what he says, and doesn't knuckle under to the likes of Rupert Murdoch. From here on out he needs to attack McCain as a warmongering, over the hill, out of touch example of country club Republicanism, and do so without apology or concession. McCain is a guy who will send their kids to a war in the Middle East, give tax breaks to fat cat corporations while they lose their homes or see them decline in value, continue the destruction of our economy through irresponsible financial policies. He needs to beat those issues into the thick skulls of the American voter.
