Right now, the Establishment Democrats seem to be doing everything in their power to throw the 2010 elections. Perhaps it's because they're basically the Washington Generals to the Republicans' Globetrotters. Perhaps it's because they're trying to come up with excuses for why they can't or won't get anything progressive passed. Perhaps it's because there's a scheme to get rid of Social Security and Medicare without making it look like that's what they're doing. Who knows, there's any number of theories. Assuming they're trying to lose and are not merely stupid, the best thing we could do would be to get out, rally, and vote for their sorry asses. I'm serious. I think it's the last thing they want us to do, so let's go and do it. I realize that the Democrats have not exactly covered themselves in glory in the last two years.
I realize that if we manage to hold on to majorities in Congress, we're still not going to get a whole lot of progress. But, at the very least, we can slow down and out of control right-wing corporatist juggarnaut. We need to buy ourselves some time, in order to continue working on getting better Democrats. If Republicans take over, in addition to the various horrors they'll try to put in place, we'll be fighting rearguard actions all over the place. We'll be told (unfortunately, correctly), that we have to support "more Democrats" rather than "better Democrats." Meanwhile, when you're fighting defensively, nothing gets done for progress. So, they might not deserve it, but let's get out there, vote Democratic and frustrate the Establishment who wants us to lose. Let's do exactly what they expect us not to do and get involved.
