Dear Friends,
Earlier this morning, Congressman West gave a gracious concession. The election is over, and I am truly humbled that the voters of the 18th district have entrusted me to represent them in Washington.
This campaign was fueled by the tireless work of my staff, by countless volunteers, and by so many of you -- who generously reached into your own (often strained) resources to help us get our message out. I cannot thank you enough for your support, and the good wishes and encouragement that kept us all charged and excited throughout these many months. I am so humbled by your support, by your generousity and by the amazing people of this district.
Almost 21 months ago, I officially launched my campaign for Congress. Throughout these months, the Kos community and staff have been incredibly supportive. I was proud to be endorsed as part of the Orange to Blue campaign, and grateful to the thousands of dollars everyone contributed to help us fight our legal battles these weeks. We could not have prevailed without you.
Tremendous thanks goes to Markos and the Daily Kos staff for their coverage and support of the race. I particularly want to recognize and thank David Nir, who covered this race so closely in the Election Digest, as well as to Joan McCarter, who was instrumental in helping to fundraise for our last-minute efforts. Thank you to everyone who wrote diaries and helped to spread the word about our campaign. In a race where we were outspent 4 to 1, everyone's contributions mattered.
I am excited and honored to get to work. From fighting for equal rights and our environment, to the protection of our middle class, there is much work to get done, and I look forward to working with the Kos community over the coming years.
With great respect,
Patrick Murphy
Congressman-Elect
Florida's 18th District
