UPDATE x3: Just for the record, Howard Dean himself seems to be on board here:
...which means that either a) he's familiar with the Clinton campaign's actual strategy and believes it to be the real thing or b) he only glanced at the headline before assuming that this was similar to his 50 State Strategy.
Either way, I think some here should cut me a bit of slack for making the same assumption.
This just in...
Hillary Clinton Campaign Launches Grassroots Organizing Program In All 50 States
WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is launching a major grassroots organizing effort Wednesday, sending staffers to every single state to start building an infrastructure of volunteers ready to pound the pavement.
What's being called the "Ramp Up Grassroots Organizing Program" will have paid staffers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the territories through the end of May. They'll be working with Clinton supporters to organize local meetings, volunteer trainings and other grassroots events, according to the campaign.
Wednesday's announcement recalls the "50-state strategy" pushed by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean when he was chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009. Dean argued that Democrats shouldn't concede any state as "unwinnable" and should invest resources in building an infrastructure in every single state -- a strategy Clinton will be testing should she make it to the general election.
Holy crap. Assuming this is for real (haven't read the whole article yet), this is absolutely awesome and strongly suggests that Hillary's "Warrenization" may be legitimate.
UPDATE: I just wanted to clarify something about my "Warrenization" quip above. I'm not saying whether I think she's only moving to the left now or whether she was always more progressive than people think or whatever; I'll leave that up to others who know her positions/votes on stuff historically better than I do.
What I am saying is that it's POSSIBLE, just POSSIBLE that she has had, at some point between her 2008 loss to Obama and her decision to run in 2016, some sort of a "Bulworth" moment.
I realize how naive/gullible I may be here, but it's not outside the realm of possibility that losing the 2008 race which she/all of her inner circle thought was inevitable caused her to reach back to her youth and remember why the hell she and Bill got into politics in the first place.
Or, perhaps it's pure political expediency...in which case I'm still OK with it as long as she backs it up with actual policies/actions over the next 10 years.
Update: OK, upon reading the rest of the article, perhaps my title was a wee bit presumptive; the "through the end of May" clarifier does give me pause.
It's still a promising sign in my view, and hopefully they'll keep it going through the actual election and beyond.
UPDATE x4: OK, it's clear by now that the article doesn't really match the headline at all.
I considered deleting it, but by the point I realized I had misread the sitaution there were like 50+ comments, including a wide-ranging discussion of related issues. Deleting it at that point seemed pointless.
Looks like I messed up here. Apologizes as appropriate. Carry on.
