As I write this diary, I find myself in Las Vegas once again. I was here in 2008 and 2012 as well, doing work on behalf of the Obama campaign. Unfortunately, I got here much later than I wanted to this time around. I didn’t realize that the deadline for mail-in registrations had passed and so now the only ways to register are either online or in person at the Registrar’s office (located at 965 Trade Drive, Suite A, North Las Vegas, NV 89030, Phone: 702-455-VOTE). Hence, I was not able to have unregistered voters fill out my forms for me to submit.
No matter. I made up an informational flyer which tells you exactly how to register online or in person. The flyer also lists two prominent locations where you can vote early in person: The Meadows Mall at Valley View Boulevard and Meadows Lane and the East Las Vegas Community Center. There are actually 97 early voting sites in Clark County! Early in-person voting runs from October 22nd to November 4th.
My favorite place to register voters has been M&M Soul Food Cafe at 3923 Charleston. I love going there! The food and service are excellent and the owner lets me stand outside and ask people if they are registered to vote as they come and go. Today, there was only one person I came across who wasn’t registered. He shrugged his shoulders and said, “I’m not really interested,” and turned to walk away. I called after him, “Would you like a flyer just in case you change your mind?” He said, “Yeah that sounds good,” and grabbed a flyer. So maybe I talked one person into registering.
I also ran across a couple who were registered but wanted to know about early voting. No problem! I just handed them the flyer and they said, “Oh, we can vote at Meadows Mall.” Perfect.
In any case, now onto THE NUMBERS! I didn’t post my usual daily diary yesterday because I was rather busy. In the past two days, our advantage over the Republicans among active voters has grown from 135,135 to 136,508! That’s 1,373 in just two days or an average of 686.5 per day! The numbers we are getting in Clark County never cease to amaze me. Don’t forget that the highest all time margin was about 138,000 from early 2013. We are going to beat that record! To be honest, I think we’re going to get past 140,000. The margin by the close of registration prior to the 2012 election was about 127,000 so we’re already way past that. And the final voter registration deadline isn't until Oct. 18th.
The current count among active voters is 426,835 Democrats to 290,327 Republicans.
We are going to win Nevada. And to top it all off, Hillary Clinton held a rally here in Las Vegas tonight! I didn’t get a chance to go but maybe next time.
