It was actually quite cathartic . During the summer, I became frustrated as they produced story after story about the Clinton foundation, as they had to be balanced with all the “real news” about Trump! The public editor tied herself in knots trying to defend how these stories were so important and deserved so much ink. When all the shenanigans with the Trump foundation eventually came out, they looked silly. Then the Comey letter comes on October 28th, and every article above the fold on October 29th was about it. While most Americans get their news from other sources, the Paper of Record sets the tone. If the New York Times implies it is the most important story of the election, the rest of the print and broadcast media follow. It seemed as if the esteemed Grey Lady spilled more ink over emails than any other single story — they had to be balanced. It was once a great paper, but they need to die. I have been a print (and digital) subscriber since 2011, and since I don't live in New York, I pay quite a hefty bit — $1,000/year and I am sick and tired of funding this crap. Two decades ago it was whitewater, last decade it was Judy Miller, and now the false equivalency that Clinton is as bad as Trump. If you subscribe, cancel it now — that’s the only way they (and whoever comes after them) will get the message!
