2015 on John McCain
“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
I wonder how many Trump backers were captured or had relatives/friends captured in a war, and left to the tender mercies of the enemy. So, I looked up the wars involving America in the 20th century. Here is what I found.
Table 1. SUMMARY OF ALL WARS*
Captured and Interned Died While POW Returned to U.S. Military Control
GRAND TOTAL 142,246 17,009 125,214
WW I 4,120 147 3,973
WW II 130,201 14,072 116,129
Korea 7,140 2,701 4,418
Vietnam 725 64 661
Gulf War (Desert
Storm) 47 25
Somalia 1 1
Kosovo 3 3
Bosnia -- -- --
Iraq 9 8
Is it even remotely possible that not one person backing their, "favorite president" ever had a relationship, in some capacity, with a POW? And never call him on this? Does their hypocrisy run so deep as to deny their own life experience?
Is this how they hope to make America great? By stomping on some of it's greatest defenders?
It's been said that there is a time for every purpose under heaven. In that case, this could well be a, "They eat their own" moment.
*The table above is from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Sorry, but it's PDF or I would link. It contains only what I was specifically looking for.
