The reliable Marquette University Poll just dropped. It’s the first post-primary poll and it’s good news!
Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Mandela Barnes moved into a strong position in his race against Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, according to Wednesday's Marquette University Law School Poll.
Barnes was at 51% while Johnson, running for a third term, was at 44%.
By comparison, the race for governor is closer, with Democratic Gov. Tony Evers at 45% with Republican businessman Tim Michels at 43%., within the poll's margin of error.
Evers’ lead has dropped, likely due to an ongoing massive, self-funded ad buy by multimillionaire Tim Michels which began a month or two before the primary election. In those ads, Michels presents himself as a truck driving regular guy wearing flannel shirts.
Evers is just on the air with ads promoting his progress as Governor. He does not do attack ads so I’m hopeful that some group will come along with ads that “out” Michaels as an out of touch multimillionaire phony pretending to be a regular guy.
Johnson’s unfavorables continue to dog him with a 38% favorable and 47% unfavorable view. Current ad buys against him promote his support for billionaires and lack of support for people. This is being reinforced by ads.
I LOVE this ad that’s running now:
Johnson isn’t helping improve things by praising a guy caught engaging in election fraud.
To Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, the Racine County man who fraudulently sought absentee ballots to prove voter fraud exists, shouldn't be prosecuted.
...
"There was no malign intent to what he did," Johnson told reporters Tuesday, at an event in Milwaukee focused on border security.
Asked if Wait should face felony charges, Johnson said "I certainly wouldn't prosecute whatever he did. I appreciate what he did. I think he did the public a service showing a vulnerability that obviously WEC isn't concerned about."
Wait, a leader of a Racine County-based group known as H.O.T. Government that promotes false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election, and others submitted false information to obtain absentee ballots to show violations of the law are possible.

Thanks.
By the way, if you’re in Wisconsin, you have an opportunity to see the Northern Lights directly overhead tonight. When solar and lunar events have happened in the past, it’s always been overcast for me. I’m hoping that this might be an exception.
