Law clerk in Trump civil fraud trial running for judgeship
Updated 1:48 PM EST, Fri February 16, 2024
CNN — The law clerk Donald Trump accused of “co-judging” his civil fraud trial is running for her own seat in Manhattan civil court in the upcoming November elections.
Allison Greenfield was a frequent point of contention for Trump’s legal team – even costing Trump thousands in fines for violating a gag order barring him from talk about her.
Trump’s lawyers complained about her presence on the bench seated next to the judge, accusing her of ‘co-judging’ as she often passed notes to Judge Arthur Engoron and whispered in his ear before he ruled.

During the trial, Engoron fiercely defended his law clerk of five years during the 11-week trial, pounding his fist on the bench as he reprimanded Trump’s lawyers and at one point suggested their complaints were misogynistic.

Greenfield could soon have a bench of her own as she’s currently running unopposed, according to a source familiar with the matter.
She’s running for a countywide civil court position that is a lower-level judgeship than that of her boss, who had to win another election to make the rise from county judge to the state supreme court.
The Democratic candidate has received several endorsements from partisan groups in recent weeks including the Manhattan Democratic Party.
Trump lawyers don’t know how a trial works. They don’t know etiquette. And they don’t care. It’s all projection, all the time.
Trump attacked her as a 'co-judge'; now NY law clerk Allison Greenfield is on her way to becoming an actual judge
Former President Donald Trump has attacked her as a biased "co-judge" — claiming she secretly runs the show at his New York civil fraud trial — but now the principal law clerk Allison Greenfield is well on her way to becoming a judge in her own right.
Greenfield is running to be a civil justice in the state Supreme Court in Manhattan, just like Arthur Engoron, the fraud-trial judge she so famously clerks for and from whom Trump is awaiting what could be a corporation-crippling verdict.
Clerk Who Trump Targeted Takes Big Step Toward Becoming Civil Court Judge
Allison Greenfield, who is the principal law clerk to Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron, took a big step toward becoming a civil court judge herself. The Civil Court Independent Screening Panel rated her “highly qualilfied” on Feb. 1. Trump criticized Greenfield during his fraud trial which prompted hate mail and led Judge Engoron to impose a gag order on the former president.

Allison Greenfield, the principal law clerk for NY Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron and a target of former president Donald Trump in his civil fraud trial, could be headed for a judgeship herself.
Greenfield, drew the biggest round of applause as the New York County Democratic Committee announced the names of ten candidates who were “reported out” by the 2024 Civil Court Independent Screening Panel at the famed Londel’s Restaurant in Harlem on Feb. 1.
“I am thrilled to have been found Most Highly Qualified by the 2024 Civil Court Independent Judicial Screening Panel and look forward to presenting my qualifications to the county district leaders and all Manhattan residents,” Greenfield said when I caught up with her outside Londel’s.

Passing muster by the screening panel is an important first step on the road to a judgeship. That panel weighs the qualifications of candidates seeking the nomination of the Democratic Party for judgeships for Civil Court countywide. Next step is presenting to county leaders.
